Philip Cornelius - 2017. Kitchen extension and entrance hall, -remodelling of back courtyard side of house
After several failed design attempts we finally found Noel Wright. Following an initial brain storming session Noel was able to quickly visualise and sketch what is now our new kitchen-diner. Noel’s attention to detail is outstanding and he was able to transform the feel of our whole house into something really special and of highest quality.
The whole process was on time and budget, Noel’s technical knowledge was very modern and complemented his unique ideas, and visual design ability. I do not hesitate to recommend Noel.
Stephen Rock - 2009. Renovation, remodelling and extension of farm house
We wanted to build a new kitchen that integrated well with our existing house. We also wanted to refurbish extensively. Noel came up with a great design that unlocked the problems we had been having. Noel acted as project manager throughout the construction stage. He worked tirelessly and made sure the project ran smoothly and successfully. I have no hesitation recommending him as an architect.
Richard & Candida Kessell - 2014. New-build complete house
We employed Noel following our initial planning consent for a new build house as we did not feel confident continuing with our previous supplier. Noel came ‘highly recommended’ by numerous previous clients and we were not disappointed. His input was invaluable and he was a pleasure to work with. Not only did he significantly improve our original planning consent – where budget and space were both limiting factors – but he oversaw the whole project right through to completion, taking virtually all the stress away from us. Noel’s ability to get the right result without upsetting anyone is a great attribute and he is not afraid to challenge where others may not. We look back on the 11 months of ‘build’ and believe we got it just right – it was an exciting and fun time and if we were to to do it again, we would take on the same team of people. Noel has fantastic vision and attention to detail but at the same time has a very practical approach and is able to operate within boundaries. We are now living in a wonderful family home that has exceeded our expectations and also came in close to budget – no mean feat! Thank you Noel and we would not hesitate to work with you again. Highly recommended.
Mollie & Paul Francis - 2012. New outbuilding and office adjacent to a listed cottage, in a conservation area
We asked Noel to design a barn store for garden furniture and mowers, combined with a home office, and if possible, add a catslide logstore – all this to be squeezed into a small triangle of garden area. This he did, and within the time constraint – we now have a beautiful oak framed building to be proud of, with wood cladding, clay tile roof, loggia projecting over the office elevation, and all looking so good our new neighbours have said it ‘looks like it’s always been there’. Quite an accolade. Noel also managed to design it to take advantage of the wonderful views from the office across the fields and up to woods in the distance – and also sited it to take advantage of the sun. It’s just perfect. Sounds easy, but it wasn’t. Noel has a great deal of experience dealing with listed properties, has many years accumulated knowledge of, and a natural empathy with, the construction methods and materials used.
In hindsight there is nothing we would change, and Noel got it all right, first time, and within the deadline of just the few weeks we had before we needed to exchange contracts – there was no margin for re-submissions.
The Winchester Conservation Officer succinctly said it all in his comments:
‘The designer has obviously taken great care in proposing an outbuilding of admirable modesty, and traditional form and appearance, using locally distinctive materials and details. The proposed structure has many of the physical characteristics of traditional local farm structures and buildings, which should help to integrate it successfully into its rural setting. …. I believe the new structure would complement the setting of the nearby listed building. It would also provide a harmonious, appropriate and attractive addition to the character and appearance of the Conservation Area’.
Byron Slater & Ann Wenn - 2012. Two storey rear extension in a village within the South Downs National Park
We found Noel an absolute joy to work with. Right from our first meeting we were aware that we had chosen exactly the right architect for us. He was extremely professional and provided us with above and beyond what we’d wanted and indeed needed. No stone was left unturned and we felt complete trust. Noel’s vision and attention to detail are second to none.
Jonathan Clare & Celeste Warner – 2012. Contemporary new-build house
Noel Wright designed and supervised the building of our new house. He oversaw the project from planning consent to completion, overcoming many planning and site difficulties along the way. While the aesthetics of the design are incredibly important, the ability to manage a big building challenge are just as vital. Noel’s contribution to the success of the house was immense and his fees paid for themselves many times over.
Tessa & Chris Godbert - 2012. Renovation and remodelling of an old farmhouse
We hired Noel Wright from Noel Wrights Architects in March 2012. We loved the look of his previous work and believed he would be a great fit for us. Our project was not straightforward and we needed someone who had the vision and skill to make the best possible renovation of a very old property on a limited budget. We found Noel to be a highly creative architect with a great eye for detail, who at the same time had a very practical and pragmatic approach to design. He was able to steer us diplomatically through the whole process, which turned out to be the creation of a wonderful family home – that didn’t break the bank! When I compare notes with friends over their architect and builder experiences I feel very smug indeed that we made a great choice and I would never hesitate to work with Noel again.
