South Downs Farmhouse
This house had very poor access to the views and garden on the south side, and the kitchen arrangements were sparse. The interior of the house was dark, and the finishes tired and decrepit.
Our solution involved selectively stripping away some of the previous extensions and thus re-establishing the identity of the place. New oak framed kitchen and porch extensions reinvigorate the south end of the house and provide the key linking to the garden.
The project utilised carefully selected natural materials and detailing intended to achieve a simple, timeless feel. Where possible, salvaged elements from the house were re-used.
An important objective was to significantly upgrade the environmental qualities of the house. A sophisticated heating system incorporates a wood pellet fuelled boiler and solar water heating.
